Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been speaking about this weekend’s North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur after signing a new contract until 2028.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has admitted that Sunday’s North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur is set to be a special one.
The Norway international has established himself as one of Europe’s most consistent midfielders in recent times, netting a whopping 15 Premier League goals last season – a tally that reads even more impressive when you consider none of those were from the penalty spot.
That kind of form hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with the Gunners handing Odegaard a bumper new long-term contract that will keep the 25-year-old at the Emirates Stadium until 2028, a major boost for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The former Real Madrid playmaker is the latest in a long line of talent to commit their future to Arsenal in recent months, with the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba also extending their stay at the club in the last 12 months.
All three of those are likely to be involved this weekend when the Gunners welcome Spurs to the Emirates Stadium for a highly-anticipated Premier League clash, one that Odegaard has admitted he is excited for. When asked about the game, he said:
“That’s a big one.”
“I think when I first came here I knew straight away going into that game that this was something special. You can just feel it at the training ground, on social media.”
