The Scotland hero was massively frustrated by his latest injury setback and there are fears in Spain it could be a bad one for the on-loan Arsenal star.
Kieran Tierney has been left fuming by his latest injury setback as the Arsenal‘s star Sociedad adventure has hit a major roadblock.
It’s a trait that has often plagued the former Celtic star, who spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines at the Emirates before making the switch in the summer to the La Liga outfit in search of consistent game time.
And the Scotland hero was seemingly getting in to his groove in San Sebastian, registering a cracking assist for Imanol Alguacil’s side as they beat Valencia this week. But his latest outing against Athletic Bilbao saw an all-too familiar sight come back to haunt the 26-year-old.
Kieran Tierney was forced off after just 20 minutes with what appeared to be a hamstring issue, something the full-back has battled before, and looked gutted with his head in his hands. It sparked fears for Steve Clarke’s men who still have crucial Euro 2024 qualifiers to contend with, but the former Kilmarnock boss does have strength in depth in defence.
Now, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the view from inside the Reale Arena was a grim one as Tierney was said to have reacted angrily to his setback, throwing bottles on to the floor and being filled with ‘rage’.
It wrote: “The negative note of the first half and the game was put by Kieran Tierney, who had to be substituted due to injury in the 24th minute after he noticed that something was not right in a kick from the right.
“He dropped the ball, raised his hand and twisted the gesture. I knew it wasn’t good news. He left very angry, with rage. He even threw two bottles on the floor. He had to walk all the way around and the crowd thanked him for the effort. The club will have to do more tests on him, but everything points to a muscle tear.”
It means Tierney could miss key Champions League action away to RB Salzburg in midweek, and looks out for a tantalising clash with Celtic’s rivals in Europe’s elite competition in Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
