Cain Velasquez gives his prediction for the fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, belongs to the small portion of the MMA community that doesn’t believe Tom Aspinall can defeat Jon Jones.

In an interview with sports journalist Ariel Helwani, Cain Velasquez shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall.

“No, I don’t think Aspinall will beat Jones,” Cain Velasquez said.

“I’ve been watching Tom, and I see that in the stand-up, he follows a certain pattern. I can read how he approaches and strikes. I think Jon sees it too. Again, Jon studies his opponents and learns. He does his homework well – he’s a master at that. He analyzes things and reviews them over and over. That’s why he’ll know exactly what to do.”

“Everyone has a fighting pattern, and some mask it better than others. Aspinall’s pattern is pretty easy to spot and read. He tries to mask it, does feints, but in the end, he approaches and strikes, giving it all in his attack. It’s not that it’s ineffective, but it’s pretty straightforward. He’s accomplished a lot with it, but Jon Jones, who studies and thinks, will beat him because of that.”

According to reports, negotiations are currently underway for a unification fight between Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones, with the world’s premier fighting league offering the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion $30 million for the bout.
