Check out how Jake Gyllenhaal take a garbage-bin ice bath in Road House behind-the-scenes photos

Jake Gyllenhaal is showing off the training regimen that got him ready to rumble for his latest movie, Road House.

The actor, who’s stepping into Patrick Swayze’s shoes for the remake of the 1989 film, had to muscle up to play a former UFC fighter–turned–roadhouse bouncer, a process that entailed push-ups and… garbage-bin ice baths. Yes, you read that correctly.

Gyllenhaal shared a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming flick on Instagram on Wednesday, including a shot of him taking a freezing cold soak in what appears to be a trash bin. In other pics, Gyllenhaal flexes his new muscles for the camera and works out between filming.

“We had an incredible crew on this film and an amazing team capturing images and video throughout our time in the DR!” Gyllenhaal captioned his post. “So much more to come!” (Bless.)

The movie, directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), is set in the Florida Keys, where Gyllenhaal’s brawler Dalton lives after his professional fighting days come to an end. But even as he intimidates the bars’ rowdiest patrons, trouble brews in the form of a gang hoping to snatch up the property for themselves.

Really, it’s no wonder Gyllenhaal felt the need to get swole. In Road House, he faces off against the likes of actual UFC fighter Conor McGregor and MMA world champion Jay Hieron.

In March 2023, footage surfaced of Gyllenhaal, tatted up and in character, confronting Hieron, who plays Dalton’s competitor Jack Harris, at a UFC event. The pair share a tense exchange, which ends with Dalton smacking Harris across the face. The movie doesn’t hit theaters for a few weeks, but in the meantime fans can rewatch the resulting slap heard ’round the world from the comfort of their own bathtubs.
