American mixed martial arts fighter Colby Covington has assessed the chance of a fight with Kazakhstan’s Shavkat Rakhmonov, after winning a bout with UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
Colby Covington says he’s ready to fight any opponent the UFC brass points to, although he recently said he wouldn’t give Belal Muhammad a chance to fight for the title.
“With whom the UFC deems it necessary, I will fight with him. It will be Shavkat, Islam or Sean Strickland. Rest assured, I will make the welterweight division great again. I’m here for a long time. If these guys want to fight with me, then let them come.
As I said, this is an open joint stock company, a large company. I love this company, it has changed my life. So I want to do the most profitable business with them. Whatever the management decides, I’m all for it. I’ve never given up on any fight. I’ve always said yes,” Colby Covington said.
Recall, earlier Colby Covington explained why he is confident of beating Leon Edwards.
Colby Covington claims he’s made good use of the extended downtime and this time around everyone will see a brand new fighter.
“I can beat him in all directions. I like that everyone calls it a wrestler versus a striker, but I’m not the fighter I was the last time I entered the octagon. On Saturday night, you’ll see a completely different version of Covington. I’m declassifying Leon. I will show the inner beast and also awaken the coward hiding in Leon,” Covington said.
UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards could shock the world again when he faces Colby Covington at UFC 296.
“Rocky” will look to defend the welterweight title for the second time when he faces Covington in Saturday’s main event. He returns after defeating Kamaru Usman in back-to-back fights, including a majority decision win in their trilogy at UFC 286 this past March.
Edwards vs. Covington figures to be a prototypical striker vs. grappler matchup. “Chaos,” a former NCAA wrestling standout, is expected to implement a wrestling-featured gameplan in an attempt to overwhelm Edwards on the ground.
