At UFC 287 this past weekend, one of the MMA leader’s top stars seemingly competed inside the Octagon for the final time.

Jorge Masvidal made the walk in the co-main event, facing top-five welterweight contender Gilbert Burns in Miami, Florida. The bout marked a home affair for “Gamebred” on what was the UFC’s first card in “The 305” since 2003.

Unfortunately for the former two-time title challenger, he wasn’t to get the moment of glory he was after at Miami-Dade Arena, with “Durinho” cruising to a relatively comfortable unanimous decision victory.

Having seen his losing skid extended to four at the hands of Burns, Masvidal made good on his pre-fight retirement talk.

During a recent appearance on Submission Radio, former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington addressed his bitter foe’s retirement for the first time.

According to “Chaos,” Masvidal’s retirement was set in stone the moment he had his hand raised over “Gamebred” at UFC 272 last March. Covington theorized that Jorge Masvidal was simply looking to avoid admitting that his former friend-turned-enemy was the one who retired him.
