Conor McGregor hits out at Charles Oliveira over fight predictions against Michael Chandler

Charles Oliveira recently gave his prediction for Conor McGregor’s return fight, claiming that he doesn’t believe the UFC’s biggest star will be able to get back in the win column against Michael Chandler.

‘The Notorious’ fired back in a series of since-deleted tweets, pointing to his record against fighters from Brazil.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, ‘do Bronx’ was asked if he believes the former double champ will receive a title shot with a victory, to which he responded:

“I don’t think he’s going to win. He’s a guy that sells and he’s great to promote. People love to watch his fights, but I don’t think he’s going to win… I believe Chandler is an explosive fighter. McGregor hasn’t fought in a long time. I believe Chandler is going to win.”

Conor McGregor quickly took to Twitter upon seeing Charles Oliveira’s comments and wrote:

“Charles Oliveira shut your pie hole. [Brazil flag] 2-0. Actually 3-0 because Rda s**t a brick”

Oliveira had previously shown interest in a money fight with McGregor. However, he recently shared that he has moved past the idea, claiming that ‘The Notorious’ handpicks his fights and only faces fighters he believes he can beat. It is unclear if the fighters will revisit the idea of a potential clash following the recent exchange of words.

When will Conor McGregor’s return fight take place?

The opponent for Conor McGregor’s return fight has been announced as Michael Chandler. They will eventually face off, but only after they first play opposing coaches on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. Aside from his opponent, however, not much is known about the upcoming bout.

UFC President Dana White has hinted that the fight will take place at lightweight, which makes plenty of sense for McGregor as he has shared that he is looking to make another run at the title. If he is able to defeat the No.5-ranked lightweight, ‘The Notorious’ will most likely receive an opportunity to fight for the title.

While the final episode of The Ultimate Fighter will air on August 15, it is unlikely that the former double champ will be cleared by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) before September. McGregor will need to re-enter the USADA testing pool for a period of six months and submit two negative samples before he is eligible to make his highly-anticipated return.
