Conor McGregor responds after Khabib Nurmagomedov references one of McGregor's memorable lines

Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov was arguably the biggest rivalry in UFC history.

Their main event lightweight title bout is remembered for the infamous post-fight brawl that ensued at UFC 229.

McGregor recently took offence to a claim that his former foe made while speaking at an event in Toronto, Canada. In a now-deleted tweet, he shared his displeasure with the UFC Hall of Famer, claiming that his team is taking over the sport because his proteges recently won championships in major promotions:

“I fight on! Your fathers plan is never complete because you quit and ran, brother. God bless. I’m still here if you wanna go again. But your fear of defeat means you’ve already lost. Run from it all you want. We all lose in the end. Death takes us all. I fear nothing by God.”

‘The Eagle’ essentially quoting ‘Mystic Mac’ likely didn’t help as he referenced the former two-division UFC champion without naming him by saying:

“I hear long time ago when one guy was talking about, ‘We’re here to take over.’ But we here to take over.”

It’s safe to say the animosity is still very much alive between the two former UFC lightweight champions, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be making amends anytime soon.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team rules the lightweight division

Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to win even in retirement as his protege, Islam Makhachev, and his cousin Usman Nurmagomedov recently won the lightweight championship in their respective promotions.

Makhachev submitted Charles Oliveira to capture the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 280, while ‘The Eagle’s cousin earned a dominant unanimous decision against Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire to capture the Bellator lightweight championship at Bellator 288.

Like ‘The Eagle’, both fighters have been dominant throughout their fighting careers and remain difficult to prepare for. Makhachev’s title win extended his winning streak to 11-straight wins and improved his record to 23-1. Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov shares a similarity with his Hall of Fame cousin as he won his lightweight championship with an undefeated record.

Both fighters are exceptional grapplers and well-rounded fighters. They have been among the top fighters representing AKA for quite some time and are now the ones to beat at 155 lbs in their respective promotion.
