Dana White teases location for Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler.
Dana White is already looking at venues for the year’s biggest fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler.
What makes a fight in the UFC matter is who is fighting and where the fight is taking place. Las Vegas is considered the fight capital of the world and the UFC holds many events there. Every year the UFC travels around the world and brings fights to people in many different countries. Now with one of the biggest fights of the year on the horizon, the matchup between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, UFC president Dana White is looking to see where would be the perfect fit to showcase this bout.
Every year in November for the past several years the UFC has traveled to New York City and held an event in Madison Square Garden. Typically that event is one of the biggest of the year. Another big event is International Fight Week which is typically held in July in Las Vegas. Either one of these venues could be right for this monster card between McGregor and Chandler however Dana White has something else in mind.
Dana White teases taking the UFC to AT&T Stadium in Dallas
The UFC has been interested in holding a fight in a stadium as opposed to an arena of late. One of the biggest in all of the United States is AT&T Stadium located in Dallas, Texas where the Cowboys play. Dana White has been wanting to bring an event there and now he thinks he might have the perfect fight to do it. He spoke to Fanatics View on YouTube about it.
“They were asking me about the Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler fight and I said, you know, they’re asking me where it is, I said, we don’t know yet. We’re kind of working that out,” Dana White said. “But you know, to go to Dallas, Texas Stadium, you have to have the right fight. Conor and Chandler are doing The Ultimate Fighter this year and they’re coaching it. And it’s the first time that it’s going to be on ESPN the network because it was on ESPN+, which will make the fight even bigger than it will already be. And Dallas, Texas Stadium is a possibility.”
The UFC and Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys have a close relationship, however, they have been unable to come to a deal to hold an event there. As is always the case White does have a few backup options in mind including one in London.
“When you look at a fight of that magnitude you got to look at Madison Square Garden, obviously Vegas which we could do the stadium there or we could do T-Mobile,” he said. “You look at Dallas Texas Stadium, you could also do a massive Stadium in London.”
Wherever this event is held it is sure to be one of the biggest of the year. The filming of The Ultimate Fighter will be happening soon, the airing will be happening in May, and the fight will be happening sometime to follow.
