Dustin Poirier was quick to remind Michael Chandler about his impressive resume after the former Bellator lightweight champion recently celebrated his UFC debut win over Dan Hooker back in 2021.
The latest interaction between the past opponents came after Chandler reposted a video showing him blasting Hooker with punches to earn his first UFC win. That fight introduced Chandler to the UFC audience and immediately made him a threat in the lightweight division.
The win looks even better now thanks to Hooker’s recent performance to defeat Mateusz Gamrot, which earned him the No. 5 slot in the UFC’s promotional rankings.
“KO of the No. 5 ranked guy who had just went 25 minutes with the No. 2 ranked guy in a Fight of the Night …but I ain’t done nothing,” Chandler touted.
Chandler also referenced Gamrot’s 2022 win over Arman Tsarukyan, who is now considered the top contender in the lightweight division.
Well, it didn’t take long for Dustin Poirier to serve up his resume as a retort to Chandler boasting about his win against Hooker from a few years back.
“Shut up,” Poirier wrote to Chandler on Twitter. “I got wins over the No. 3, No. 5, No. 6, No. 9 and No. 12 lightweights.”
For those keeping score at home that means Dustin Poirier has beaten Justin Gaethje, Hooker, Chandler, Max Holloway and Benoit Saint Denis, who are all still currently ranked by the UFC.
While it’s not exactly a contest, Poirier rarely misses a chance to take aim at Chandler after they first fought at UFC 281 in 2022. On that night. Poirier submitted Chandler with a third-round rear-naked choke in a Fight of the Night performance.
Even Chandler noticed that Dustin Poirier couldn’t resist the chance to respond even though the original post didn’t involve him.
“Didn’t even mention him,” Chandler wrote on Instagram. “Just stated an observation. Dude has legit hate for the boy.”
