Earth day 2020: why it is celebrated twice
Two holidays on different dates complement each other.
April 22 is a holiday called “International Mother Earth day”. Sometimes it is simply referred to as” Earth Day”, although it is partly incorrect to call it this.[/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”12721″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]In 1971, the United Nations established a holiday called Earth Day, and it is celebrated on March 20, that is, on the vernal equinox. Then the Burmese diplomat, U Thant, who served as the third UN Secretary-General, compared the Earth with “a wonderful spaceship with such a vulnerable load of life.” The purpose of the holiday was to draw the attention of mankind to the danger of wars and emphasize the value of the planet as a common home for all people.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]International Mother Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, is much younger – it was established only in 2010. Nevertheless, according to some reports, it arose on the basis of a holiday with almost a century and a half history – Tree Day, previously celebrated in the United States. The founder of the American holiday is considered the Minister of Agriculture of Nebraska Sterling Morton. In 1872, he proposed to spend a day devoted to landscaping every year, after which the “Tree Day” gained popularity in the United States, and also inspired other governments to establish similar holidays. As mentioned above, sometimes celebrated on April 22nd, the holiday is also called simply “Earth Day” – for example, that’s how it is indicated in Google’s doodle on the role of bees in preserving ecosystems.
Finally, there is an environmental campaign that has recently become so popular around the world that it is also confused with the holidays of March 20 and April 22. This is the “Earth Hour” at the end of March, during which many people turn off lights and electrical appliances at home.
From the point of view of the themes, Earth Day, Earth Hour, and “International Mother Earth Day” are more likely not to duplicate but complement each other – in the first case, the main attention is paid to world peace, in the second – to issues of reasonable energy consumption, and, finally, the third is the conservation of trees and ecosystems in general.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_separator color=”green” style=”shadow” border_width=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
