Fighter Brendan Loughnane, who missed out on UFC contract despite Dana White's Contender Series victory, wins $1M at PFL

Dana White infamously didn’t award Brendan Loughnane a UFC contract in 2019 despite him winning his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS).

According to the UFC president, the reason for his decision was that Loughnane “lacked heart.”

Loughnane dominated his fight on DWCS but shot for a takedown in the last round, which was the opposite of what White wanted to see.

The Englishman was then picked up by the PFL shortly after and has a record of 8-1 in the promotion.

It seems that Loughnane now won’t mind that he isn’t fighting for the UFC after winning $1 million and the PFL featherweight title.

@VerdictMMA posted the following on Twitter:

“2019: Brendan Loughnane wins a fight on Dana White’s Contender Series but doesn’t get a contract because he shot for a takedown in the final round. 2020: Brendan Loughnane wins $1 Million with the PFL.”

See the tweet below:

If Loughnane continues to dominate the featherweight division in the PFL, then it may only be a matter of time before White tries to sign him again.

The Manchester native fought in the UFC during 2012, with two fights on The Ultimate Fighter and one fight against Mike Wilkinson at UFC on Fox 6.

Joe Rogan is not a fan of Dana White’s latest venture, a slap-fighting league, but admits he will still watch it

Joe Rogan recently had UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley on The Joe Rogan Experience. When the subject of Dana White’s new Power Slap League came up, Rogan declared that he wasn’t a fan of the idea.

The podcast host explained that fighting itself is far more exciting due to the ‘problem solving’ and chess-like nature of MMA, whereas a slap-fighting league only promotes concussions.

However, Rogan admitted that he would still watch White’s new project, despite not advocating it:

“I love Dana, and I would be a hypocrite if I said I wouldn’t watch this, because I will watch it. But it’s not my cup of tea. What I like is problem-solving, I like puzzles. What I like is Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan. This f***ing Russian assassin is rushing the gates and you’re kicking and moving away.”
