Wrestling fans will finally be able to see former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in action this December.
In February of this year, the two-time UFC champion was charged with several offenses, including attempted murder against Harry Goularte Jr. Cain’s actions were motivated by the suspicion that Goularte was sexually abusing his four-year-old child.
After nearly eight months in detention, the fighter was recently released on bail worth $1 million. He is now subject to home detention with GPS monitoring.
Immediately after his release, a tweet by ESPN journalist Marc Raimondi claimed that Cain Velasquez’s team was getting in touch with the concerned legal authorities. It was to let the pro-wrestler take part in the upcoming Lucha Libre AAA show at the Mullett Arena at Arizona State University, Tempe.
Following a recent hearing, Judge Arthur Bocanegra ruled that Velasquez is permitted to fly to Tempe, Ariz., to compete in the upcoming pro wrestling event from December 1 to December 4. During this time, the fighter’s GPS tracker will be deactivated.
However, Velasquez will have to hire and pay for a police officer to accompany him for work details.
This will not be the first time that Cain Velasquez will be participating in the Lucha Libre AAA show. The fighter first appeared in the event shortly after retiring from MMA in 2019. Following that, the fighter appeared in WWE before leaving in 2020 and returning to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide near the end of 2021.
Daniel Cormier comments on his friend Cain Velasquez’s recent release
Cain Velasquez’s legal team made several attempts to get the fighter released during his eight months in jail. But the judge denied ‘Cardio Cain’s bail three times.
The previous judge was recently replaced by Arthur Bocanegra, who believed that releasing the fighter would pose no risk to society and thus granted him bail.
Appearing on a recent edition of The MMA Hour, Daniel Cormier had this to say on his old friend’s recent release:
“They switched judges, so now there’s a new judge, and he said something to the effect of, ‘I hope you are as great a father as everybody says, and you will not do anything that puts you being with that family at risk.’ And I don’t think for a second that he’s going to. I don’t think he will.”
