Gilbert Burns is hoping to take on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in January. During an interaction with MMA Junkie, ‘Durinho’ revealed that he and ‘Gamebred’ have verbally agreed to fight.
Considering that the fight hasn’t been made official, the Brazilian is also warm to the idea of facing Neil Magny, who is coming off a submission victory over Daniel Rodriguez at the recently concluded UFC Vegas 64 card.
Taking to Twitter, Burns congratulated ‘The Haitian Sensation’ for his performance and welcomed a homecoming fight against Magny in January.
“Congrats @NeilMagny last time I heard @ufc said I have an opponent for 🇧🇷 if he doesn’t show up, we can dance I’m in 💯% to make this Fight happen! For now great finish and congrats on your record!”

“Gilbert Burns, let’s do it in Brazil. It’s January 21st, right around the corner. Let’s just bring to the top 5, let’s go!”

Neil Magny considers Gilbert Burns to be the “best grappler” in the UFC welterweight division
Neil Magny bounced back from his submission loss to undefeated prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov in impressive fashion. ‘The Haitian Sensation’ picked up a submission victory of his own, dispatching Daniel Rodriguez with a third-round brabo choke in his latest outing.
Magny also believes that he has come a long way since his loss to Rakhmonov and is determined to test himself against the best grapplers in the welterweight division.
Speaking to the media at the post-fight press conference, Magny stated that he considers Burns to be the best grappler at 170 pounds, which was also his reasoning for calling out the Brazilian:
“Gilbert Burns is one of the toughest, or in my opinion, the best grappler in the division right now… I feel like I did a lot of growing in that fight against Shavkat and I feel like challenging myself against a good grappler like Gilbert Burns is just going out there to show it.”
