Gilbert Burns looking to continue with plan to fight in Brazil despite Jorge Masvidal's call-out

Gilbert Burns‘ plans to fight at UFC 283 in Brazil remain unchanged despite Jorge Masvidal‘s recent call-out.

While Burns has long been accusing Masvidal of ducking him, ‘Gamebred’ recently addressed the allegations and called out ‘Durinho’ for a clash in the U.K. next year on the undercard of the welterweight title fight.

However, Burns is eyeing a fight in front of his home fans at UFC 283 which is scheduled to go down in Brazil in January 2023. With the pay-per-view now just two months away, ‘Durinho’ claims to have been in touch with the UFC and expects to get an opponent as early as tomorrow. The former welterweight title challenger wrote on Twitter:

“Heard from the @ufc tomorrow they will have a answer and a name for #UFC283”

Gilbert Burns has long been calling out Jorge Masvidal, who did not seem interested in the matchup until recently. ‘Gamebred’ recently claimed to have been too busy to address Burns’ callouts due to his involvement in the November mid-term elections.

Masvidal further stated that he now wants to fight the Brazilian in London on the same card that will feature Leon Edwards’ title defense against Kamaru Usman.

Khamzat Chimaev has called out Gilbert Burns for a clash in Brazil

Always keen to step into the octagon, Khamzat Chimaev is known for calling out high caliber opponents. ‘Borz’ recently issued a call-out to newly crowned middleweight champion Alex Pereira, but with the Brazilian expected to rematch Israel Adesanya next year, that seems unlikely.

Chimaev has now turned his focus to a rematch against Gilbert Burns at UFC 283 in Brazil. ‘Borz’ fought ‘Durinho’ for the first time at UFC 273, earning a unanimous decision victory in a back-and-forth war. The Chechen-born Swede now wants a rematch against Burns, but this time at middleweight.

The 28-year-old wrote on Twitter:

“If Alex not ready to be killed, let’s go du it again in Brazil 84 kg this time 🤝💯”

Burns also expressed interest in the rematch irrespective of the weight class.

While Burns hasn’t competed since his decision loss to Chimaev in April, ‘Borz’ went on to score a dominant first-round submission win over Kevin Holland in a makeshift matchup at UFC 279 in September.
