The fires have ripped through large parts of Los Angeles
Devastating wildfires have been ripping through Los Angeles in recent days, killing 10 people. destroying more than 10,000 properties and forcing thousands to flee their homes.
Five blazes are still active in the region, including the Palisades Fire, which is the largest fire of the lot and the most destructive in the history of LA.
The picturesque neighbourhood, made up of hillside streets in the Santa Monica Mountains which lead down to beaches, is popular with A-listers, with many owning properties there.
Several celebrities have taken to social media to confirm their homes have been lost in the blazes, which have spread rapidly out of control thanks to strong winds and tinder-dry conditions.
One of the first celebrities to announce their home had been destroyed was Paris Hilton. She shared footage on social media of her watching news coverage which showed her destroyed home.
On Friday, she returned to the site of her property to survey the damage. In a post in Instagram, Hilton said: “I’m standing here in what used to be our home, and the heartbreak is truly indescribable. When I first saw the news, I was in complete shock—I couldn’t process it. But now, standing here and seeing it with my own eyes, it feels like my heart has shattered into a million pieces.”

Acting couple Adam Brody and Leighton Meester’s $7 million mansion is also among structures which have been destroyed due to the wildfires.
The couple purchased the five bedroom home in 2019, but pictures show the property now engulfed in flames.
Meanwhile, actress Anna Faris’ $5 million eco-friendly abode was totally decimated by the blaze.
Former talk show host Ricki Lake also shared an emotional post mourning the ‘immeasurable’ loss of her ‘dream home’.
Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Sperry have also reportedly lost their home in the Palisades. In a post on Instagram, Sperry shared a picture of the fires with a broken heart emoji.
Acting stars Mel Gibson, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Billy Crystal and James Woods have also all seen their homes destroyed in the blazes.
Crystal said in a statement on Wednesday: “We raised our children and grandchildren here.
“Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.
“We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this.”
Another who has lost their home is Gilmore Girls and This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia. Speaking to CBS Evening News, he said: “You start thinking about all the memories in the different parts of the house and whatnot. Then you see your neighbours’ houses and everything around, and your heart just breaks.”
Jurassic World star Daniella Pineda also saw her home engulfed by the blazes, and shared her devastation in an emotional post on Instagram.
She wrote: “This was the first house that I ever bought. My very first. The fire broke out so fast all I could grab was my dog and my laptop and that was it. I lost everything else. I have 1 pair of shoes to my name. I’m happy to be alive. Grateful to be alive. People really show up for one another when disaster hits. Thank you to everyone who offered to help me.”
Take That star Mark Owen and his wife Emma were forced to evacuate their home. He wrote on Instagram: “We woke up to helicopters, thick black smoke, winds howling, and the uncertainty that our house would survive. I wish I had packed better. Even if I had just grabbed each of their baby shoes, it would have been something.
“So many have lost everything, pets included. And it’s nowhere near over. Three active fires are blazing around us, and there is not enough water to manage the situation. Planes are grounded due to the winds.
“I’m not sure what our next step is. Right now, I’m just heavy and tired. We are beyond grateful to the heroes at @losangelesfiredepartment for all they do during these times. They work tirelessly to save homes and lives under catastrophic conditions. We see you. Climate change is real, and it’s apocalyptic when it strikes.”
Oscar-winning actor Jamie Lee Curtis shared that her “community and possibly my home is on fire” but revealed her family is safe. The Halloween star said it was a “terrifying situation”, adding that she is “grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze.”
Star Wars legend Mark Hamill shared how his family were “fleeing for our lives” as they evacuated their home, whilst Schitt’s Creek actor Eugene Levy has also had to flee.
Britney Spears also confirmed she had fled her home during the fires, the Mirror reports.
Firefighters have managed to contain 6% of the Palisades fire. The other active fires are Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Kenneth, which was the most recent blaze.
Although firefighters have yet to contain any of the Eaton fire, they have managed to “significantly stop” the 13,690-acre blaze, CBS News reports.
Meanwhile, the Lidia Fire is 75% contained, the Hurst Fire is 37% contained and the Kenneth Fire is 35% contained.
The Woodley, Tyler, Olivas and Sunset fires have all been 100% contained.
The insurance industry fears this could prove to be one of the costliest wildfire outbreaks in US history, with insured losses expected above $8bn (£6.5bn) due to the high value of properties in the paths of the blazes.
According to Accuweather, the total estimated damage from the wildfires could be as much as $150bn.
