The GTA 6 release date remains one of the biggest mysteries in the video gaming industry, with Rockstar Games staying silent on the matter. This has led some fans to speculate that the title might be delayed until 2026. Recently, popular video game journalist Jason Schreier shared his thoughts on the topic, catching the community’s interest.
During an interview on the Kinda Funny Games (YouTube/@KindaFunnyGames) YouTube channel on December 10, 2024, the host asked Schreier about his views on the GTA 6 release date. He responded:
“I would be shocked if it actually made it next year (2025). I think that it would probably slip again, cause Rockstar Games always slip…I would be shocked if it doesn’t slip to 2026. Like, I would be shocked if it actually hits fall 2025.”
However, Schreier clarified that this was just his personal opinion and had nothing to do with Rockstar’s official plans.
Fans should note that Schreier is a prominent video game insider who has confirmed various things related to GTA 6, such as the two protagonists and the Vice City setting.
What else did Jason Schreier say about GTA 6 release date?
In the same interview, Jason Schreier noted that Rockstar delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 multiple times before finally releasing it in the fall of 2018. He added that video games have become more complex over the years, which could potentially lead to a delay for Grand Theft Auto 6.
However, Schreier also cited official sources indicating that Take-Two Interactive is still aiming for a fall 2025 release for the highly anticipated game.

It’s worth noting that Rockstar Games hasn’t announced anything related to the GTA 6 release date since December 2023. Initially, fans expected the Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing campaign to begin in 2024. However, the lack of updates has been both surprising and concerning for the community.
In a recent Bloomberg report, Jason Schreier said:
“GTA 6 has already missed multiple deadlines, a common practice at Rockstar, but Take-Two says it’s now on track.”
The same report also mentioned details from the Grand Theft Auto 6 development process, including efforts to make the game “less crude toward transgender people and other minorities.”
Despite these updates, the absence of a confirmed release date is causing some fans to worry about the game’s future.
