Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall responds to callout from UFC 299 winner Curtis Blaydes

Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has given an emphatic response to Curtis Blaydes’ recent callout.

Curtis Blaydes was in action in the featured UFC 299 preliminary bout. He took on Jailton Almeida , and things went awry for the Brazilian in the second round. When Almeida went for a takedown, Blaydes rained down punches to knock his opponent out.

After the fight, “Razor” Blaydes called for a rematch with Tom Aspinall.

“I believe me and Aspinall have got some unfinished business,” Blaydes said. “I’d like to get that one next. That’s my next fight, Aspinall.”

Tom Aspinall Comments On Potential Rematch With Curtis Blaydes

Aspinall is aware of Blaydes’ recent performance and he wouldn’t mind settling that “unfinished business” Curtis was talking about.

“Don’t gotta ask me twice,” Aspinall said. “I’m in”

Aspinall and Blaydes fought back in July 2022, but it only lasted 15 seconds. Aspinall injured his knee and the fight never really got a chance to get going.

Since returning to action one year later, Tom Aspinall has picked up right where he left off. He is coming off a huge first-round knockout win over Sergei Pavlovich back in November 2023. It was that victory that earned Aspinall the interim UFC heavyweight gold.

Tom Aspinall has been making his case to get a shot at UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones instead of Stipe Miocic. It appears he has accepted the fact that the UFC will go through with Jones vs. Miocic plans, as he has expressed willingness to stay active.

One would assume that if the fight happens, Aspinall’s interim gold would be at stake. If he will indeed defend the gold before a title unification, Blaydes has set himself up as the logical challenger while fans wait on “Bones” vs. Miocic to take place.
