Israel Adesanya was impressed by Leon Edwards’ performance on Colby Covington at UFC 296.
Israel Adesanya praised Leon Edwards after he defended his welterweight title against Colby Covington at UFC 296. Izzy also shared his take on the brawl featuring Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Adesanya had nothing but compliments for Edwards after witnessing “Rocky” perform well. On the contrary, “The Last Stylebender” was disappointed by Covington’s performance.
“Beautiful. Honestly, just beautiful display of striking from Leon and grappling,” Adesanya reacted. “The stance switches, the positions, the pressure, the pullbacks, the distance and Colby had nothing for him.”
Israel Adesanya gave his bold reaction to Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis’ physical altercation
Israel Adesanya was also asked to comment on the sideshow altercation between Strickland and Du Plessis. For Izzy, it was worse than what he did when he faced off with “Stillknocks” inside the cage at UFC 290. However, it’s still quite entertaining in the fans’ point of view.
“I mean, at least he didn’t call him a n***a. Fully respectable champions and title challengers. That’s what they did. ‘Oh, Israel is so embarrassing as a champion. Goes in the cage, meh, meh, meh.’ Then this is what they do,” Adesanya said. “They sucker punch them. He actually did. He jumped over the chair, sucker punched him and they had a little scrap.”
“I liked it. I like a sh*t show,” he added. “Don’t we all? We all see a car crash, we won’t look away.”
Adesanya lost his middleweight title to Strickland at UFC 293. He then decided to step away from MMA for an indefinite period of time. However, he previously hinted at a potential return in 2027.
Edwards is currently waiting for his next challenger, while Strickland and Du Plessis are set for a middleweight title fight at UFC 297.
