Andre August played it cool for most of fight week, but he finally came alive in his final staredown with Jake Paul before their clash on Friday in Orlando, Fla.
Jake Paul and Andre August each made weight for their eight-round cruiserweight contest, which takes place at Caribe Royale Orlando and streams on DAZN, coming in respectively at 199.4 and 198.6 pounds. After hitting the scales, Paul bear-crawled up to August and went face-to-face, doing a throat-slitting motion and talking as August played right back.
“Andre August is going to sleep and he don’t need a Celsius to wake him up,” Jake Paul said after the faceoff.
Unfortunately, the microphone that caught all of Paul’s press conference taunts earlier in the week wasn’t at the ready. But unlike previous Paul weigh-ins, security wasn’t needed to intervene as the fighters and their camps kept things respectful.
“I’m going to shock the world,” Andre August said. “I’m going to put him down. I’m tired of the talk. All that talk is over with.”
Jake Paul attempts to up his professional boxing record to 8-1 after an August decision over UFC star Nate Diaz. August has won his five previous bouts and his 10-1 as a pro, but an upset win over Paul would catapult his boxing career unlike no other opponent.
In the co-main event, Shadasia Green and Franchon Crews Dezurn got nose-to-nose for their WBC super middleweight title contest, talking trash before Most Valuable Promotions’ Nakisa Bidarian separated them.
