Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz could seek the help of a former opponent for his UFC 291 return.
Blachowicz will welcome Alex Pereira to the light heavyweight division in the UFC 291 co-main event in July. He returns after a long hiatus since a draw against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 282.
Alex Pereira opted to make the move to light heavyweight after back-to-back middleweight title fights against Israel Adesanya. After Pereira got the upper hand at UFC 281, Adesanya got his revenge by knockout at UFC 287 earlier this year.
As Jan Blachowicz prepares for the tall task of facing the always-dangerous Alex Pereira, he’s open to seeking counsel from Adesanya ahead of fight night.
Jan Blachowicz Invites Israel Adesanya To Train For Alex Pereira
During a recent interview on The MMA Hour, Jan Blachowicz invited Adesanya to train with him ahead of UFC 291.
“Yeah why not? I can call him, I think so, but [the fight] is still too far away,” Blachowicz said.
Jan Blachowicz defeated Adesanya via unanimous decision at UFC 259. He went on to lose the belt at UFC 267 against Glover Teixeira by submission.
Blachowicz recently hinted at a move to middleweight to face Adesanya in a rematch. But, it appears he has unfinished business at 205 lbs as his matchup with Pereira is likely a top contender matchup.
There’s plenty of time between now and July 29th for Jan Blachowicz to seek Adesanya’s advice, and we could see these former adversaries work together to help supplement Blachowicz’s game plan.
