Joel Alvarez continued his unbelievable finish streak after blasting Elves Brener with a barrage of knees to score a third round knockout at UFC Abu Dhabi.
After nearly wrapping up a D’arce choke in the opening round, Alvarez kept his perfect finishing record in tact after he cracked Brener with a left hand that put the Brazilian on wobbly legs. From there, Alvarez grabbed the back of Brener’s head and just started unloading knees in succession.
Brener eventually crumbled from the damage done with the referee finally swooping into stop the fight at 3:36 in the final round with Alvarez scoring his 21st finish in 21 wins.
“I feel good,” Alvarez said after his latest win. “I’m one of the most dangerous of this division. I’m a great striker. I always have a lot of faith, a lot of trust in my striking and my kickboxing.”
With the ability to dish out punishment in every facet of the game, Joel Alvarez was an offensive machine from the first second of the fight until the last. Brener just had no answer for the power and diversity of strikes coming from Alvarez, who always kept him guessing.
Even though he had a height and reach advantage, Joel Alvarez was the one closing the distance and just unloading punches and kicks to chip away at Brener.
While his striking was on point, Alvarez got Brener down to the canvas in the opening round where he locked up a nasty D’arce choke but the Chute Boxe fighter was able to survive to the final horn.
He wasn’t nearly as lucky in the third round after Alvarez snapped off a lightning quick left hook that immediately had Brener in trouble. Smelling blood in the water, Alvarez grabbed onto the clinch and started unleashing his knee strikes until Brener finally collapsed to the ground.
It was another impressive finish from Joel Alvarez, who already had designs on his next opponent.
“My place is in top 15 rankings but I like a fight, only respect, for King Bobby Green,” Alvarez shouted. “King, let’s go, here in Abu Dhabi, October.”
