Jorge Masvidal's trial in Colby Covington case pushed to February

Jorge Masvidal has been dealing with legal issues dating back to March earlier this year, and news has now surfaced that the welterweight’s trial in the Colby Covington case has been pushed to February.

‘Gamebred’ is ready to make his return to the cage and get back in the winner’s column after suffering losses in his last three fights in the octagon.

His most recent outing saw him suffer a one-sided dominant defeat at the hands of ‘Chaos’, a man whom he holds a lot of resentment towards.

As reported by MMAJunkie, Jorge Masvidal’s trial date has been pushed back to February of next year. This is following his not-guilty plea eight months ago after his confrontation with Colby Covington.

According to earlier reports, Jorge Masvidal discovered the whereabouts of long-term rival Colby Covington and used it to his advantage by sneaking up on the unsuspecting victim and throwing punches.

During the alleged exchange, ‘Chaos’ suffered a fractured tooth from the strikes and broke a wristwatch that he was wearing on the night. The 170lb contender was outside a Papi Steak restaurant in the heart of Miami and was rumored to be accompanied by the ‘Nelk Boys’ before the brawl happened.

If the results go against Masvidal, his career in the sport of mixed martial arts could be over. Reports suggest he is facing up to 15 years in prison and/or a large fine for his crimes.

The history between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington that led to the alleged assault

Once upon a time, Jorge Masvidal was tasked with welcoming Colby Covington to the renowned American Top Team gym. The two hit it off due to their love of gambling.

The pair would help each other’s game throughout the years. The Strikeforce veteran shared his knowledge of striking with the younger athlete, and the NCAA Division I wrestler got Masvidal familiar with grappling.

As stated by ‘Street Jesus,’ things changed between the pair during the 38-year-old’s time on the popular Dominican Republic game show, Exatlon Estados Unidos.

According to rumors, Covington “ripped off” Masvidal’s striking coach, Paulino Hernandez, refusing to pay him despite being a student of the man for years leading up to his success with the UFC.

Although things were already bad between the two, comments were exchanged on both sides over time and the result of their fight was seemingly the final nail in the coffin.
