Khamzat Chimaev laughs at Alex Pereira receiving BJJ brown belt after dethroning Israel Adesanya
The Chechen-born Swede didn’t seem impressed by Pereira’s victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 280 and has since proceeded to call him out on social media.
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani broke the news that Alex Pereira recently received his BJJ brown belt from one of his coaches, Plinio Cruz.
However, Khamzat Chimaev did not seem impressed by the wrestling skills that the Brazilian put on display against Adesanya and retweeted the picture with emojis of him laughing and face-palming.
Check out the post below:
While ‘Poatan’ mostly fought Adesanya standing up, there were times when the two former kickboxers went to the ground. ‘The Last Stylebender’ even managed to control Pereira for the majority of the third round, leaving an elite grappler like Chimaev craving a shot against the middleweight champion.
This is not the first time that ‘Borz’ has taken shots at ‘Poatan,’ as Chimaev has been vocal about his desire to face the champion. In a series of tweets posted by the Chechen-born Swede, he has continued to call out Pereira, even offering to fight him on his home turf in Brazil.
‘Borz’ also appealed to Dana White in an Instagram post, claiming that if ‘Poatan’ fought for the belt with a 6-1 record in professional MMA, he could “smash” him for the belt having a 12-0 record.
While it is still unclear who will face Alex Pereira in his first title defense, there are a couple of probable opponents for him. Israel Adesanya may even get his immediate rematch considering his past achievements.
However, the Chimaev/Pereira fight is certain to pull big numbers, given Chimaev’s popularity and Pereira’s new crown.
Khamzat Chimaev vs. Colby Covington in the works according to UFC president Dana White
Khamzat Chimaev may be up next to face Colby Covington in a welterweight matchup soon.
In a recent post-fight interview after UFC 281, Dana White confirmed that the promotion is working on a matchup between Chimaev and Covington. When asked about the status of the potential matchup, White stated:
“We’re working on that too. That fight is being worked on.”
The two welterweights are currently at the very top of the division, with Covington occupying the No. 2-rank and Chimaev at the No. 3-rank. Khamzat Chimaev is currently on a spectacular win streak, undefeated in his MMA career with a record of 12-0.
In his most recent outing, Borz defeated Kevin Holland at UFC 279 with a first-round submission. On the other hand, Chaos’ last fought Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 securing a win via unanimous decision. The two welterweights have made a name for themselves among the fans and a potential face-off between them would certainly promise fireworks.
