PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix winner and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, has retired from his professional fighter career, according to the president of the biggest mma promotion, Dana White.
“Dana White just announced during a live broadcast on ESPN + that Shogun Rua had retired,” noted sports columnist Nolan King tweeted
The legendary Brazilian did not officially announce his retirement, but simultaneously with the statement of the head of the UFC posted a meaningful comment on Instagram, which, if desired, can be regarded as confirmation of White’s words.
“I am grateful to the Lord for all my achievements!” – wrote the 39-year-old Brazilian, posting a photo of his main trophies
Mauricio (Shogun) Rua had his last fight in November last year, losing by TKO in the second round to Paul Craig. It is worth noting that the last five years have been far from the worst in the career of the Brazilian, who has suffered only two defeats since 2015, except for the failure in the fight with Craig in 2018, losing by knockout to Anthony Smith.
