Michael Bisping named Top 3 Fighters in MMA History

During the live broadcast of UFC Fight Night 220, Michael Bisping referred to Jon Jones as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

This resulted in a Twitter user asking ‘The Count’ whether he genuinely believed the statement or was he simply asked by the UFC to say so. Bisping responded by saying that according to him, Jones’ resume made him one of the top three (Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre being the other two) greatest fighters ever.

“They never tell me what to say. I said it because yes his f**king resume. He’s top 3 without question. Jones, Anderson, GSP. It’s all objective but it’s one of those 3. My question.”

A few days ago, Bisping uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he spoke about Jon Jones and the pound-for-pound debate. ‘The Count’ said that although Alexander Volkanovski retained his number one spot in the pound-for-pound rankings, it was ‘Bones’ who was truly deserving of the pound-for-pound throne.

“That title [pound-for-pound No.1 fighter] belongs to a man that returns next week to the octagon. And yes, of course, I’m talking about Johnny ‘Bones’ Jones. Okay, he’s been out of action for a while. Three years away from the octagon, we know this okay, but that’s the guy.”

Jon Jones will make his much-awaited comeback in March

Hailed by many as one of the greatest fighters to ever step foot inside the octagon, Jon Jones will return to action on March 4. The former light heavyweight champion will take on Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 285.

The event will mark Jones’ first fight in over three years. The 35-year-old’s last UFC outing took place at UFC 247. That night, ‘Bones’ took on the then undefeated Dominick Reyes for the light heavyweight title. Jones edged out a unanimous decision victory and vacated the title.

Since then, Jones has been preparing for a move up to heavyweight. After three long years, the moment is finally here when the MMA world will find out whether ‘Bones’ can conquer the heavyweight division or if the long hiatus worked against the 35-year-old.
