Neil Magny addresses Georges St-Pierre comparisons after setting welterweight wins record after impressive victory at UFC Fight Night on November 5

With an impressive victory at impressive victory at UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Lemos, Neil Magny broke MMA legend Georges St-Pierre’s record for the most wins in the UFC’s welterweight division.

Magny was earlier tied with St-Pierre with 19 wins, but the victory on November 5 helped him surpass ‘Rush’.

During the post-fight press conference, ‘The Haitian Sensation’ was asked about the comparisons with St-Pierre. Magny hailed the former two-division champion as the greatest 170-pounder of all time.

Magny added that him and the former champion had two different careers and comparing them will only put more pressure on him:

“I believe Georges St-Pierre is the greatest welterweight of all time. It was cool to be able to get to the point that I have the most wins in the UFC right now but I just have to accept that his career is far different than mine and I can’t look at Georges St-Pierre’s career and what he’s done in the sport and feel like I fell short or I didn’t accomplish enough or anything like that because that’s just added mental pressure that I just don’t need.”

Magny continued:

“I feel like if I buy into the hype and constantly compare myself to GSP, when that day does come for me to walk away from it, I may have a dark shadow over my head where it’s just kind of like, ‘Oh yeah, you had an okay career but you were no GSP. I accept that. I know it. I’m not GSP. I’m Neil Magny.”

During the post-fight press conference, Magny elaborated on the callout and said he wanted to test himself against another high-level grappler in Burns.

Magny’s latest loss came at the hands of Shavkat Rakhmonov, who submitted the 35-year-old in the second round. According to ‘The Haitian Sensation’, he learned a lot from that fight and wanted to prove that against ‘Durinho’:

“Gilbert Burns is one of the toughest, or in my opinion, the best grappler in the division right now… I feel like I did a lot of growing in that fight against Shavkat and I feel like challenging myself against a good grappler like Gilbert Burns is just going out there to show it.”
