Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling‘s next fight is expected to be against former UFC two-division champion and Olympic gold medalist wrestler Henry Cejudo.
Based on a report by MMA Fighting, Cejudo will make his promotional comeback against ‘Funk Master’ at UFC 287 on April 8. However, no official contracts have been signed at this point.
Although the UFC tried to slate the fight sometime in March, Sterling’s bicep injury has pushed the potential bantamweight clash to a later date.
According to Bet Online’s projected odds for a potential fight, the reigning champion is a -120 favorite for the matchup over the +100 underdog ‘Triple C’.
Aljamain Sterling has been having a dream run in the UFC lately. Since winning the title in March 2021, ‘Funk Master’ has defended the 135lbs belt twice, against Petr Yan and T.J. Dillashaw.
The 33-year-old currently enjoys an impressive eight-fight win streak and is 22-3 in pro-MMA.
Cejudo was on a six-fight win streak before announcing retirement at UFC 249 and hasn’t stepped inside the octagon since May 2020.
Henry Cejudo became the fourth-ever double champion in the UFC when he claimed bantamweight gold after securing a second-round TKO victory over the legendary Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. Cejudo’s MMA record stands at 16-2.
