Paulo Costa has suggested a cross-division double-team match as he pitted himself and Colby Covington against Khamzat Chimaev and Darren Till

Paulo Costa jokes about teaming up with Colby Covington to fight ‘Smesh Bros’ Khamzat Chimaev and Darren Till.

Costa took to Twitter to suggest a WWE-style tag team matchup between ‘Smesh Bros’ Chimaev and Till, and Team BRUSA where the Brazilian would pair up with the American Covington.

Chimaev and Till’s relationship has been one of the most unlikely of friendships that have formed on the UFC roster. The Russian-born Swede invited the Englishman to train together after a string of defeats for ‘The Gorilla’.

The two have since been spotted together at various pay-per-view events and have gone on to become teammates. Till was also part of Khamzat Chimaev’s corner in his last fight against Kevin Holland at UFC 279.

Although Paulo Costa and Colby Covington do not share a similar relationship, that did not prevent the Brazilian from forging a bond with ‘Chaos’ for his Twitter audience. ‘Borrachinha’ routinely engages with fans on social media and is known for his fun and lighthearted posts.

Costa has not fought since his victory against Luke Rockhold at UFC 278 and is busy negotiating his next contract with the UFC.

Will Khamzat Chimaev fight Colby Covington next?

Khamzat Chimaev jumped to No.3 in the welterweight division after his win over Kevin Holland. The weight-cutting fiasco surrounding his UFC 278 bout prompted many fans to suggest a move up to the middleweight division.

However, ‘Borz’ has not confirmed any such move. Rather, he has actively sought a matchup against No.2-ranked contender Colby Covington. He posted a fan-made poster on Instagram showing the two together that drove fans into a frenzy.

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen added fuel to the fire by suggesting a “main event” fight has been agreed between the two. Sonnen said on his YouTube channel:

“According to the underground, the kids on the underground are saying that Colby Covington and Chimaev have agreed to a five-round main event at UFC 285… So you’re looking about five months down the road… Apparently they have agreed to it and it would be a No.1 contender fight.”

Covington has not fought since his win against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. The suggested timeline, according to Sonnen, also allows for Kamaru Usman to get his title rematch against Leon Edwards first and then sets up the winner of Khamzat Chimaev vs. Colby Covington to face the champion.
