The study derives the so-called value of equity, based on a large number of game parameters. In particular, it analyzes all the actions in which the player participated during the match, and their influence on the final result of this game.
The study was based on the results of Messi and Ronaldo between 2013 and 2018 (that is, they took the last five seasons of Cristiano as a player of Real Madrid).
As a result, the “equity” indicator of Messi is 1.21, Ronaldo is 0.61. Moreover, it was the most successful period for the Portuguese, who then won victories in four Champions League and received four Golden Balls.
The study concludes that Messi plays more with the ball, generates more points and has twice as much influence on the final result of the match than Cristiano Ronaldo.
