Khamzat Chimaev is known for his work ethic and savage mentality while training. He was recently seen stuffing a takedown attempt from two teammates simultaneously.
During his UFC tenure so far, ‘Borz’ has showcased his wrestling and dominated his opponents with quick takedowns en route to submission wins.
His most recent win against Kevin Holland was quite impressive as he immediately took him down and submitted him without getting hit.
ESPN MMA recently shared a video of ‘Borz’s latest feat of strength as he made light work of two training partners trying to get him down to the mat.
Khamzat Chimaev has emerged as one of the fastest rising stars in the UFC since making his debut in 2020. He has competed at both middleweight and welterweight thus far and is unbeaten in the promotion. However, his weight-miss fiasco prior to his previously scheduled fight against Nate Diaz prompted many to question whether he could make the welterweight limit of 170 pounds anymore.
Nevertheless, ‘Borz’ has not shied away from issuing challenges to the champions of both divisions and recently called out newly crowned middleweight king Alex Pereira, who defeated Israel Adesanya at UFC 281.
Is Khamzat Chimaev vs. Colby Covington on the horizon?
After months of speculation, it appears as though Khamzat Chimaev vs. Colby Covington could finally be on the horizon for 2023. The two were originally linked to a headlining bout for the UFC on ABC event this past summer, but it didn’t come to fruition.
UFC President Dana White was asked about the potential welterweight bout at post-fight press conference following UFC 281. He confirmed that the matchup is in the works.
In an earlier interview, White claimed that the Chimaev vs. Covington bout could feature on the undercard of the projected trilogy bout between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, which is expected to go down in the U.K. next year.
The UFC often includes unofficial No.1 contender bouts on the undercard of championship fights in the same weight class. The promotion is seemingly lining up the winner of Chimaev vs. Covington to contest the welterweight title in their next outing.
