Kamaru Usman appears to be growing frustrated by the fact that he and Khamzat Chimaev still haven’t stepped into the Octagon.
Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev still aren’t booked to fight each other, but the two have continued trading jabs on social media following a confident prediction from the UFC’s former welterweight champion.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” has already made it clear that he considers a matchup with Chimaev to be a logical booking for both fighters. Usman previously reigned as the UFC’s welterweight champion and defended his belt on five occasions. He’s now looking to get back on track after suffering back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards.
The 36-year-old is so keen on a fight with Chimaev that he’s even suggested it could be contested at middleweight. After Usman claimed on Twitter that he’d end things within four rounds, “Borz” provided a sarcastic reply.
Kamaru Usman Pokes Fun At Khamzat Chimaev For Activity Online
Khamzat Chimaev followed his initial tweet with a message that seemed to indicate he’s serious about fighting, but Usman apparently isn’t interested in any back-and-forth if it takes place online.
“Borz” currently occupies the #4 spot in the UFC’s welterweight division, but there are some question marks around his future in the weight class after his last fight at UFC 279.
Khamzat Chimaev was supposed to headline that event against Nate Diaz, but after he stepped on the scale and egregiously missed the welterweight limit, the undefeated fighter ended up submitting Kevin Holland in a co-main event catchweight bout.
It might suit both men to get something on the books sooner rather than later if they’re hoping to make a case for a welterweight title fight. Edwards is expected to defend his title against Colby Covington next per Dana White’s insistence on the matter, but the #3-ranked Belal Muhammad also just added to his lengthy win streak by defeating Gilbert Burns at UFC 288.
