Conor McGregor found his hands full following his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov. While ‘The Eagle’ was scuffling with Dillon Danis outside the cage, two of Nurmagomedov’s teammates jumped into the octagon and assaulted McGregor.
While ‘The Notorious’ star was able to meet one attacker with a left hook, he wasn’t so successful with the other, who sucker-punched him. Conor McGregor posted the following in remembrance of the infamous moment:
McGregor’s tweet read:
“Self Defence is about awareness. Awareness is half the battle. Take no chances. Stay aware.”
The fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most infamous events in UFC history. The moments leading up to the bout were filled with a lot of animosity on both sides, with the Irishman taking his trash talk to personal levels.
While ‘The Eagle’ stayed composed for the most part leading up to the bout, he let his emotions get the better of him in the octagon, largely once the bout was over.
Khabib Nurmagomedov took McGregor to deep waters, even standing toe-to-toe and dropping the Irishman in the second round. ‘The Eagle’ even spoke to McGregor while landing shots on him in one exchange.
‘The Eagle’ won the fight via submission with a tight neck crank. Khabib Nurmagomedov held onto the submission until Herb Dean pried it off.
Following alleged verbal jabs from McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis, a fired-up Nurmagomedov climbed out of the cage and performed a flying kick on Danis. A scuffle quickly ensued, before it was eventually separated.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor was getting sucker-punched inside the octagon. The arena was so fired up, ‘The Eagle’ had to be escorted out of the premises without being crowned because of raging Irish fans.

After the UFC 229 win and subsequent scuffle, Khabib Nurmagomedov had a brief interaction with the media at the post-fight presser. He only answered one question, which saw him berate the media for focusing on his moment of angst, as opposed to the various flare-ups of Conor McGregor.
‘The Eagle’ apologized to the athletic commission and the city of Vegas before asking the media why they were so fixated on his slip-up and not the various infractions of the Irishman.

‘The Eagle’ listed out the things McGregor said to him before pointing to the UFC 223 incident. Nurmagomedov referred to the Irishman’s team as ‘tap machines’ and re-iterated the fact that MMA is a sport of ‘respect’ and not ‘trash talk’.
In his closing monologue, Khabib Nurmagomedov made a reference to his now-late father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, saying:
“Thank you, guys. Thank you guys for waiting for me [over] here. I know my father [is going to] smash me when I go home, because… I know he’s [going to] smash me.”
