Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Bukayo Saka’s ongoing contract negotiations with Arsenal.
Bukayo Saka, 21, has been a standout player for the Premier League leaders this season.
The England international has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions to help the Gunners to the top of the table.
He is out of contract in 2024 and Arsenal are keen to tie Saka down to a new long-term deal, with Manchester City reportedly keen to sign the winger.
While the contract negotiations have dragged on, a breakthrough was seemingly reached last week – with a report in The Athletic claiming Saka had agreed to a new deal in principle.
Transfer expert Romano has now provided more detail around the proposed deal, claiming it is only a matter of time before it is signed by all parties.
“Bukayo Saka has always been clear in the last year: no negotiations with other clubs, he only wanted to stay at Arsenal as he loves club, project, coach,” tweeted Romano.
“New deal agreed one week ago after 13 months talks – it will be signed once final details and documents are sorted.”
It comes after Gabriel Martinelli also agreed to a new long-term contract with the club earlier this month.
What has Arteta said about Bukayo Saka’s contract?
Speaking last week, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said there was “no news” on Saka’s contract situation but said he was keen for the winger to remain at the Emirates.
“We want to keep our best players. The players that we are developing. We want to create a long term project here and we need our best players at the club,” said Arteta.
With Saka’s future now looking more certain, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has called on the club to reach a similar deal with William Saliba, who is also contract in 2024.
“People talking about Saka signing a new deal, and we know how much we need Saka. I don’t think there was any real problems with that happening because of his connection with the club,” said Wright.
“But I think all the eggs need to go in the Saliba basket. We have got to make sure we keep this guy.”
