UFC commentator Joe Rogan has given his analysis of the upcoming trilogy between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman.
Joe Rogan doesn’t travel for international UFC events anymore, but he’s keeping a close eye on the action this weekend at UFC 286.
UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards will face Kamaru Usman in a highly-anticipated trilogy at UFC 286 this Saturday in London. The two welterweights will clash for the third, and likely final time, in their UFC rivalry.
Edwards will look to put a stamp on his new title reign by putting his rivalry with Usman in the past. Meanwhile, Usman is hoping for revenge, after suffering a come-from-behind headkick knockout at UFC 278 last year.
Rogan, the longtime UFC lead color commentator, is fascinated with all of the storylines entering Edwards/Usman 3 on Saturday.
Joe Rogan Can’t Contain Excitement for Leon Edwards/Kamaru Usman 3
During a The Joe Rogan Experience podcast episode with Jamahal Hill, Rogan praised both Edwards and Usman ahead of their clash.
“He’s so good, he’s one of the most impressive guys hitting pads,” Rogan said of Edwards. “His technique is so sharp! And the fluidity of his combinations…that’s a world-class striker. That setup for the head kick that landed on Usman in the first fight was…textbook.
“Kamaru knowing he had the fight won if he just avoided that kick…he was ahead on the cards…he’s going to have to respect everything else, too…Kamaru’s a fucking nightmare, man…his mind is the thing that’s most dangerous about him. “
Before the shocking loss to Edwards, Usman was widely regarded as the top pound-for-pound UFC fighter in the world. He’s arguably the greatest UFC welterweight champion of all time, in the discussion with Georges St-Pierre.
The win over Usman was the icing on the cake of a long, treacherous journey to the top for Edwards. He hasn’t lost since his and Usman’s first meeting in Dec. 2015, defeating the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Nate Diaz, and others.
Edwards vs. Usman 3 is the latest in a series of big-name fights so far in 2023. If Rogan’s thoughts are an indicator of what’s to come, we could be in for a show this weekend.
