The world’s premier fighting league is exploring the possibility of relocating UFC 311 from fire-stricken Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
This was reported on social media by sports journalist Ariel Helwani.
“UFC is negotiating the status of UFC 311,” the journalist wrote. “As of now, the event is still scheduled to take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Los Angeles, and there is hope it will remain there. However, they are monitoring the situation and are prepared to relocate the show if necessary. Obviously, a decision will be made soon. The event is just eight days away. Las Vegas is the most likely relocation option, with the T-Mobile Arena available next Saturday.”
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) has also issued a statement regarding the situation with UFC 311.
“We are closely monitoring the ongoing wildfires and emergency response efforts in the Los Angeles area,” the CSAC statement reads. “Our hearts go out to the residents of the region, and we appreciate the efforts of first responders working to keep the community safe. At this time, no decision has been made regarding the relocation of UFC 311. However, we will continue to collaborate with state and local officials as well as the UFC to determine the best course of action.”
UFC 311 is scheduled for January 18, with the main event featuring a lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. In the co-main event, reigning UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili will defend his title against Umar Nurmagomedov.
