Henry Cejudo thinks Aljamain Sterling should listen to Daniel Cormier’s suggestion for the next bantamweight title contender.
Sterling defended the bantamweight title for a second time after finishing TJ Dillashaw at UFC 280. With several contenders just one win away from a title shot, a debate about who deserves to be the next challenger has begun.
Cormier appeared on the UFC 280 post-event show, where he had this to say about Cejudo potentially fighting ‘Funk Master’:
“If Henry Cejudo is coming back and he gets into the USADA pool, and he can get down to the weight, there is no reason why he shouldn’t be the guy that fights Aljamain Sterling. He’s the guy that left as the double champion and walked into retirement. Now he’s on his way back. Him vs. Aljo is the fight I wanna see.”
Cejudo saw Cormier’s comments and responded on Twitter by saying:
“Listen to @dc_mma and @felderpaul, you just might learn something @funkmasterMMA”
Cejudo’s rumored return has shaken up the bantamweight division. Some have speculated Sean O’Malley could get the next title shot. But another win against a top contender would make sense given that ‘Sugar’ won far from convincingly against Petr Yan at the recently concluded UFC 280.
‘Triple C’ still needs to be cleared by USADA before a fight can become official.

Henry Cejudo isn’t impressed with Aljamain Sterling’s win against T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 280
Aljamain Sterling’s win against T.J. Dillashaw was somewhat anti-climatic due to the former champion exacerbating an existing shoulder injury during the bout. Henry Cejudo was keeping a close eye on the UFC 280 co-main event. He harked back to ‘Aljo’s disqualification win over Petr Yan to become the champion in a fight Sterling was clearly losing:
“If we’re gonna go there, you’re only champ ’cause of your Academy Award-winning performance. Congrats on beating a junkie with one arm who I finished in 32 seconds. If I fought you with two broken arms and a broken freakin’ neck, I’d still hear ‘And New.’ Your time’s almost up.”
Dana White mentioned Cejudo when asked about what’s next for Sterling. That said, things can change quickly due to the depth of bantamweight division. ‘Triple C’ being injected into the division makes 135 pounds even more intriguing.
