Umar Nurmagomedov underwent surgery and was out of action for a while after his fight with Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311

Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Umar Nurmagomedov, who suffered his first career defeat last week in a title fight against Merab Dvalishvili, has successfully undergone surgery on his hand, which he broke in the first round of the bout.

The Russian fighter shared a post-operative X-ray image on social media.

Earlier, Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, stated that his fighter plans to have his next bout in mid or late summer. However, the California State Athletic Commission has preliminarily suspended the Russian fighter for six months, unless he provides a medical clearance allowing him to return to the Octagon sooner.

After losing to the reigning division champion at UFC 311 in Los Angeles by unanimous decision with scores of 49-46 and 48-47 twice, Umar Nurmagomedov stated that he does not consider himself defeated in this fight and disagrees with the judges’ verdict.

Before his unsuccessful attempt to win the UFC championship belt, the 29-year-old Russian had secured six victories in the world’s strongest league, including three finishes.

Merab really did this against Umar Nurmagomedov in the 5th round:
