'Wonderboy' Stephen Thompson claims Kamaru Usman is injured and he wants to replace him to fight Leon Edwards

Stephen Thompson is back to winning ways after dominating Kevin Holland in his last fight.

‘Wonderboy’ is already looking for a title shot in his next fight as he claims Kamaru Usman is injured and the UFC is looking for replacements for the Leon Edwards trilogy fight. Thompson believes he would be a good fit for the fight, among other fighters like Jorge Masvidal.

While on the Fred Talks Fighting podcast, he spoke about the situation:

“I’m still going for the title….. I know the guys ranked above me right now are some heavy heavy wrestlers but everybody wants to see me fight a stand-up fight. Which, I don’t mind at all. Any of those guys would be awesome, Jorge Masvidal, Michel Pereira.”

He added:

“People are in-talks of me fighting Leon Edwards. I know Kamaru Usman is having hand surgery, I know they want to fight somebody in March and they were looking at Jorge Masvidal. But you know He’s a standup fighter, so it kind of inspires me a bit, our division is so heavy (on) wrestlers, and Leon Edwards is a striker and he’s champ. So, anyone of those guys would be awesome.”

Stephen Thompson claims that Kamaru Usman will not be able to take part in his trilogy fight against Leon Edwards since he will be undergoing hand surgery. The champion Leon Edwards is still looking to fight someone and ‘Wonderboy’ would love to fight Edwards since it is a striking matchup.
