YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul could be plagued with infamous 'Drake Curse' following singer's bet

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will finally take on Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy Fury in a boxing matchup on February 26. The two will put their respective unbeaten records on the line in their meeting in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

Paul has six straight wins under his belt, with impressive victories over former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley. However, Canadian singer and actor Drake has placed a bet, and the commonly associated stereotype that comes with it may endanger Paul’s winning streak.

A popular running joke on the internet suggests that any athlete or team supported by Drake or one that he has bet upon is faced with loss or failure.

Drake took to Instagram to post a screenshot of his bet on the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury fight. The rapper wagered Bitcoin worth $400,000 on Paul to win by knockout for a potential payout of $1,440,000 in Bitcoin. The musician uses his sponsor Stake, the world’s leading cryptocurrency-based betting platform, for his wagers.

Drake wrote on Instagram:

The most popular instance of the ‘Drake Curse’ in the UFC is from UFC 229, where ‘Champagne Papi’ sided with Conor McGregor against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Hours prior to the fight, McGregor posted a picture alongside the rapper draped in an Irish flag. The ensuing submission loss to Nurmagomedov in the fourth round prompted much hilarity from opposing fans.

Someone’s zero has got to go.”
