At UFC 307 this past Saturday, light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira once again successfully defended his title in an emphatic come-from-behind win against Khalil Rountree Jr.
After finishing Khalil Rountree Jr in the fourth round of their war in Salt Lake City, Alex Pereira set a new UFC record for the shortest amount of time between three title defenses, showcasing his star power.
Jamahal Hill mocks Alex Pereira moments after his emphatic UFC 307 win
The fight didn’t play out as simply as ‘Poatan’ and the majority of the UFC fanbase imagined it would as ‘The War Horse’ took the fight to the Brazilian champion from the get-go and didn’t let him get into the fight.
After losing the first two rounds, the 37-year-old began to find his feet and turned on the pressure as Rountree Jr began tiring.
Round three went the way of the champion who seemed to have turned the tide of the fight and then in round four, he exhibited exactly why he is one of the most feared fighters on the planet.
A barrage of heavy punches that ripped the eyes of Rountree Jr marked the beginning of the end as ‘Poatan’ pushed him up against the cage and continued to tee off on him. After dropping the challenger with a crushing body shot, Marc Goddard stepped in and Pereira’s comeback was complete.
In attendance for the fight was Pereira’s former foe, Jamahal Hill, as he is hopeful that he is still in the title picture despite his last fight being a loss to ‘Poatan’.
Immediately following the fight, Hill was seen mocking Pereira by pretending to yawn after the finish, insinuating that he wasn’t impressed in the slightest.
Alex Pereira issues a cold response to Jamahal Hill following the reaction
Fortunately for ‘Sweet Dreams’ Hill and the rest of the 205lb division, Pereira stated following the fight that he is going to continue defending his light heavyweight title instead of moving up or down in weight, something Conor McGregor was bizarrely not happy about.
Speaking to the media after his fight, Pereira offered a response to Hill after learning about his reaction.
“Yeah, maybe he just woke up from UFC 300,” Pereira responded chillingly at the post-fight press conference before bursting out laughing.
Although Hill is hopeful of a rematch against Pereira, the Brazilian will likely defend his title against Magomed Ankalaev next, if the Russian gets through the tough test that is Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308.
The Brazilian star also offered a response in regard to McGregor’s post-fight video stating that a fight at heavyweight will eventually happen.
“I’ve called for that before and Dana (White) came in there and was very happy and he said he was gonna take care of me and I think that if the UFC wants to please me I think maybe a fight at heavyweight one day will please me,” he stated.
