Dana White revealed that he's dabbling in the sport of boxing within 6-8 months

UFC president Dana White revealed that he’s dabbling in the sport of boxing.

However, White reiterated his stance that boxing is a corrupt sport. As such, the UFC boss isn’t exactly jumping at the chance to expand his empire into the world of professional boxing.

Appearing as a guest on Amazon Prime’s The Cari Champion Show, White was asked if he has plans to work on a boxing promotion in the future. The UFC head honcho revealed:

“I’m already dabbling there and doing some things. I’m just sort of playing. I’m staying in the outside and sort of playing with it and it’s just such a corrupt, bad sport. It’s so corrupt and it’s really tough to navigate. So I’m staying in the background, I’m playing around and we’ll see what happens over the next couple of years.”

White previously stated that he’s strongly opposed to plunging into the business of boxing. Although he still has his reservations, the 53-year-old revealed that he has something cooking, which could materialize in the next several months:

“I would love to get in and try [to return boxing to glory]… Just it’s so bad that it’s indescribable. The people that are involved in it. Every time I go, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go in there and do it.’ I’ll get in a phone call with a boxing guy and I’ll hang up the phone and I’ll go, ‘Am I nuts? Have I lost my mind? Why would I ever consider doing this?’ Now that I have said this to you, you will see over the next 6-8 months some of this stuff start to play out publicly.”

Dana White credits boxing legend for success

Dana White claimed that boxing has a special place in his heart as he owes his entire career to the sport.

Specifically, the billionaire promoter credited Boston boxing legend Peter Welch for helping him learn the ins and outs of the combat sports business. During an interview with Grant Cardone of GQ Sports, White said:

“He [Welch] took me in and I started working for him and literally, the rest is f***ing history. From the day I got with him… Everything was going like this [points his finger upwards]. That’s the way I looked at it… He was the guy that I needed to find at that point in my life.”
