Eddie Alvarez admitted that he is negotiating a fight with Oscar De La Hoya

Former UFC and Bellator champion and current fighter of the Asian ONE Championship Eddie Alvarez said he could have a boxing match with ring legend Oscar De La Hoya.

Eddie Alvarez admitted that he is negotiating a fight with Oscar De La Hoya

Last month, 48-year-old De La Hoya announced his return to boxing, saying that he wants to get his rival fighter with a big name. Many began to puzzle over who they might become, until Alvarez admitted that he was in talks with De La Hoya’s team.

“Recently we’ve been hearing from Oscar De La Hoya’s guys. Look, I’m fixated on the ONE Championship belt,” Eddie Alvarez said to ESPN. “I’m laser, laser-focused on making history and getting my world title, but I feel like there’s going to be a lull. The champion (Christian Lee) is going to sit for a little bit. I think he’s having a baby.

“If that happens, Oscar De La Hoya and them guys have been reaching out and, hell, I’d love to get in there and mix it up with him,” Eddie Alvarez continued. “That would be a hell of a fight. I’ve got everybody here in Philadelphia backing me. The whole of Philadelphia boxing to back me up to get in there and mix it up with that guy. It would be a dream come true, and I actually think I’d do pretty damn good against him. So I’d be crazy excited about that if them guys figured that out.”

Although Eddie Alvarez says he plans on fighting in ONE Championship again this month, the boxing fight does interest him. He also knows the title fight wouldn’t happen for quite some time. So the former UFC lightweight champ is hoping a deal gets done as he says talks are very serious.

“There’s serious talks. They’re serious like wanting to get a deal done this week serious,” Eddie Alvarez concluded.
