Herbert Burns suffered a torn ACL and will undergo surgery in South Dakota. No timetable as to how long he will be sidelined for.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that an injury to Herbert Burns has forced him off of the UFC’s July 17 event and that Gabriel Benitez will step in to face Quarantillo in his place. ESPN Deportes was first to report the switch.
Benitez returned to the win column this past December with a first-round TKO of Justin Jaynes. “Moggly” was set to compete at UFC Vegas 25 but missed weight by 4.5 pounds for his scheduled matchup with Jonathan Pearce, who elected not to accept the fight with Benitez.
Quarantillo will look to get back in the win column after recently having his eight-fight winning streak snapped by Gavin Tucker at UFC 256 in December.
The UFC’s July 17 event will be headlined by a featherweight matchup between Max Holloway and Yair Rodriguez.
