Pillar, 32, was beaned by Jacob Webb’s 94 mph fastball in the top of the seventh inning and blood immediately gushed from his face. After several moments on the ground, he was able to walk off while covering his face with a towel.

“Thanks to everyone that has reached out!” Pillar wrote on Twitter after the game. “Scary moment, but I’m doing fine.”

The scary moment was the latest in a long string of injuries for the Mets, who earlier in their 3-1 win lost starting pitcher Taijuan Walker with left side tightness. Earlier Monday, the team placed Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil on the injured list with hamstring injuries.
