Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov criticized his ex-rival Conor McGregor for the way he spent his last fights. According to the Russian, the Irishman began to be afraid of strong rivals.
“Conor fought with Donald Cerrone and looked like a lion. It comes out against strong fighters-it looks like a scared chicken. Top competitors show what you are worth. For example, the level of Russian football will show a match not with Malta, but with Croatia. Similarly, the fight with Cerrone will not show what level you are at, ” Khabib Nurmagomedov said at a press conference in Moscow.
Note that after losing to Khabib in October 2018, McGregor held three fights in the UFC. First, he knocked out veteran Donald Cerrone in the first round, but then lost twice in a row ahead of schedule to top lightweight Dustin Porrier.
Khabib Nurmagomedov also shared his opinion about the Russian heavyweight Alexander Volkov.
“Volkov is one of the best fighters who represents our country in the UFC. But when big fights come… it went well – he lost to Ciryl Gane. Also lost to Curtis Blaydes. And also lost to Lewis. And the age is already – like my age, ” Nurmagomedov said.
“I think he’s always around, but when big fights come, he doesn’t win. Yes, he is a competitive fighter, but I’m only talking about the final result. And, I repeat, the age – now he is 32, and it takes two years for a new race. I’m not trying to criticize Volkov. My father was very worried about him, he was sick, they had a great relationship, and I myself know his coach”
