Yoel Romero is out of the fight with Anthony Johnson at Bellator 258

Bellator promotion announced the cancellation of the fight of the quarterfinal stage of the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix between American Anthony Johnson and Cuban Yoel Romero, which was scheduled to take place on May 7 at the Bellator 258.

According to the official statement of the league, the reason for the breakdown of the fight was that the Cuban veteran was not allowed to fight by doctors.

Yoel Romero is out of the fight with Anthony Johnson at Bellator 258

“Yoel Romero did not pass a medical examination before the fight, as a result of which his debut in Bellator against Anthony Johnson was postponed. Bellator confirms that Johnson will be selected as soon as possible for a new opponent to fight in the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix,” the statement said.

Now, instead of the Johnson – Romero fight, the Bellator 258 tournament will be headed by a fight between the bantamweight champion Juan Archuleta and Sergio Pettis. The co-main event will be a welterweight bout between Michael Page and Derek Anderson.

“Romero will be able to re-apply for admission to the competition in the coming months. We look forward to his debut in Bellator in the near future. Bellator will try to postpone the long-awaited fight between Johnson and Romero to another date, “ the promotion concluded.

Note that at the moment it is unknown who will replace Romero in the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix and when Johnson will fight with this opponent.
