The main event of UFC 264 ended with an unfortunate injury for Conor McGregor.

Dustin Poirier emerged victorious by doctor’s stoppage in the trilogy bout between the first and second rounds, as McGregor suffered a leg injury in the closing moments of the opening frame.

“It looked like the ankle to me, but I’m no doctor. Once they get in there and do the X-rays on him and look at it, they’ll know exactly what’s wrong,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters during the UFC 264 post-fight news conference.

That’s when UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell, who was standing close by, interrupted his response and provided an update of McGregor’s condition.

“Lower tibia. The shin, I guess,” White relayed to the media on the microphone. MMA Junkie was able to confirm shortly after that the injury was indeed a broken tibia.

“I don’t know how the f*ck they figured that out that quick,” White joked.

Whenever Conor McGregor is ready to return to action from the break, White says that a fourth fight with Poirier makes sense for closure on the rivalry.

“It’s all about timing, what’s going on, what’s happens since then,” White said. “Conor goes into surgery tomorrow. We don’t know long how he’s going to be out. How much his rehab and therapy he’s going to need.”

While there is no timetable available for McGregor’s return, it appears the boss has at least one matchup in mind when that time comes.
