Legendary referee John McCarthy, now a commentator and analyst podcast host, gave his take on the upcoming boxing match between former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren and popular video blogger Jake Paul.
“The big question is whether Ben has enough boxing skills, because a good boxer can close the distance and force an opponent into a phone booth fight,” Big John said in a regular podcast.
“He has to stay in close proximity to the enemy, work his body, not let him breathe and deprive him of space to deliver his own blows. If Ben can do this with Jake Paul, he will wear him down and finish him off, because when a boxer is tired, bad things happen to him in the ring. To avoid this, Jake must move competently, cut corners, but this requires experience that he simply does not have. Even high-level amateur boxers have problems with fatigue amid fatigue, and Jake is in serious trouble. “
The boxing match between Ben Askren and Jake Paul will be the main event of the Triller Fight Club boxing night, which kicks off a few hours later in Atlanta, Georgia.
