Gilbert Burns recently shared his prediction for the upcoming trilogy fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in London.
Edwards laid claim to the welterweight strap after his sensational fifth-round knockout of Usman at UFC 278 in August last year. While the Englishman was dominated by Usman for the majority of their contest, a perfectly positioned head-kick in the final minute of the fifth round clinched the win for Edwards.
As the two top welterweights prepare to go head-to-head for the third time, Gilbert Burns puts his faith in ‘Rocky’ and believes Leon Edwards will benefit from the home advantage.
In an interview with ESPN MMA’s Carlos Contreras Legaspi, Burns was asked for his take on the trilogy title bout:
“I think Leon’s going to win this fight. The first fight was very good… But now it’s different, now he’s at home. London. No altitude there. I think his team did a great job in the fourth round going into the fifth round and I think they’re going to do a great job again. I do believe Leon’s going to remain the champion.”
Gilbert Burns previews his upcoming matchup against Neil Magny at UFC 283
Gilbert Burns is set to face off against Neil Magny at UFC 283 on January 21 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and ‘Durinho’ is confident in his ability to secure the win.
In the same interview, Burns broke down Magny as an opponent and predicted a submission win:
“Neil Magny is very tough… He has a bigger reach advantage and a lot of experience… He’s gonna try to throw a couple of knees, I think he’s gonna try to clinch a little… But I’m gonna put a lot of pressure, I think that’s the way to beat Neil Magny… I will try to knock him out in the beginning, and if I can’t, I will take him down and try to work a submission.”
Gilbert Burns is coming off a five-round war against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273, where he lost via decision. Looking to kickstart another title run, ‘Durinho’ will be hoping to make a statement at UFC 283 with a thorough victory over Magny.
